To understand how it works, imagine holding two sanding blocks. It would be difficult to rub these blocks together because the coarse sandpaper surfaces create considerable resistance to sliding motion. But if a plastic bag were to be placed between the blocks, movement could easily take place because there would be minimal friction between the opposing plastic surfaces.
