Wilderness medicine courses often teach how to use a hiking or ski pole as an improvised traction splint. Dr. Sam Slishman took this concept to the next level with the introduction of the STS Ski/Hike Traction Splint Poles. A set of high quality skiing and hiking poles that can be used as a dedicated traction splint for femur fractures. The STS ski/hike pole set employs the same proximal traction loading mechanism as the award winning STS Traction Splint. The traction application and adjustment offers the same 1.5:1 mechanical advantage and shares the relative radiolucent properties of the standard STS. The splint is made by Gipron, and utilizes the Flicklock, which is the same lock mechanism used in Black Diamond ski poles. Sold in a set, one traction pole and one standard pole with standard pole straps and traction straps. A great addition to your skiing or hiking gear locker for Ski Patrol, Wilderness EMTs, SAR agencies and first responders.
